About this event
Please join our Freedom Vigil, organized by Northland Neighbors United in solidarity with our friends, neighbors, and community members who are being unjustly detained and deported by ICE. By signing up, you will help us build our collective power as we add our vigil to the ever expanding map of Freedom Vigils occurring every week across the country. This will be a peaceful, family-friendly event featuring community speakers, moments of reflection, and opportunities to take action. Together, our voices will rise as we build momentum and increase the public pressure to stop the deportations, shut the detention centers, and end the inhumane attacks on immigrants. The main purpose of the vigils as of right now is to keep the awareness of CoreCivic going. We have:
•Informational pamphlets
•Information from other groups and organizations on call to actions locally
•Zines and stickers to help bring home the awareness We also have a family aid table where donations for cleaning/hygiene and baby/child items can be dropped off and how to help detainees with Commissary/Phone/Tablet funds. Parking is located on Brewer PL. That road is all public parking. It is about 2-3 minute walk to the grass patch we are set up. There is flat grassy ground along the road and then you come to sidewalk. Quiktrip is located about 4 minutes from MRRC for bathrooms. Northland Neighbors United provides water, shade and snacks of all kinds. Please bring your signs, extra chairs, bug spray/sunscreen.
(A few visitors bring their umbrellas for extra shade) *A core principle behind all Freedom Vigils is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.*
