Piloted in 2021, "WELLderness: An Outdoor Wellness Series" was developed to bring members of the community together (in person and online) to engage in activities that would have a positive impact on their physical and mental health and well-being. Throughout the year, people have the opportunity to participate in FREE events that center around fostering better connections to self and the environment. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Visitors will learn fun and easy Double Dutch moves on the spot and be jumping in minutes! Kids welcome! Since SY2012-13 teaching Double Dutch at 7-12 elementary schools on Capitol Hill, inviting students from those schools to participate in the Cherry Blossom & American's Independence parade, events at the Kennedy Center REACH & community events with Open Street, Library of Congress & National Building Museum. In 2018, DC Retro Jumpers were cultural ambassadors sharing the joy of Double Dutch in Moscow Russia. Received awards from the Metropolitan Police Department's Beat the Streets, Secret Service Division & our instructor received the Legend Award for sharing 20 years of Double Dutch with the DMV communities. By Metro, the park entrance is 1.0 mile from the Deanwood Metro Station and 1.3 miles from the Minnesota Ave Station, both on the Orange Line. By foot or bike, access the park via the Anacostia River Trail. Participants should bring a water bottle, snack, bug spray, sun protection, and/or anything else one may carry when spending time outdoors. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes for being outdoors.
