About this event
Last year, universities and colleges begun signing agreements with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), granting campus police the authority to conduct immigration enforcement. Now, 11 out of the 12 Florida Public Universities have signed this agreement, along with 7 colleges, and more stating their intent to sign on. This collaboration raises critical concerns for immigrant students, faculty, and staff, who may face increased surveillance, questioning, and even detainment on campus. There has also been heavy policing around students exercising their first amendment right. Due to this, all students should attend ensure they know their rights. This "Know Your Rights on Campus" training is designed to empower students, educators, and community members with the knowledge and tools to protect themselves and others. Participants will learn: - Understanding the legal agreements between universities & ICE. - Your constitutional & legal rights regardless of status. - How to respond if approached by officers. - Where to find Emergency plans, legal resources, and how to support peers facing enforcement actions. - How to push back against harmful agreements and demand an end to university-ICE collaboration. Knowledge is power. Knowing your rights helps protect your community and resist unjust enforcement on campus.
