About this event
The Santa Fe chapter of Veterans For Peace started this vigil in 2002 and have continued it every Friday at noon for 23 years. Its purpose is to bring awareness to the hundreds of billions of our tax dollars going to the production of new nuclear weapons here in our state. Many people, even many New Mexicans, are unaware that Los Alamos National Lab is currently building several new bomb factories to increase production of nuclear bomb cores (known as plutonium "pits") to reach a goal of 30 to 120 new pits per year. Each pit, on average, has the destructive power of 20 Hiroshima-sized bombs. Loud public outcry may be able to halt this waste of federal money, or at least slow it down until we elect a saner administration. Life on Earth is at stake.
