About this event
Join us at this Day of the Dead Action to call in our ancestors and honor the people whose lives ended as a result of ICE detention as well as people killed by ICE and Border Patrol agents. We will have art, song, poetry and communal space. People are dying in detention at a record rate and ICE agents are tearing families apart, making people less safe, and causing chaos wherever they go. No one is safe when ICE is present. Join AFSC, Shut Down GEO and Regis University students to take action as we honor, remember, and grieve beloved family members, friends, and neighbors outside ICE's for-profit detention center in Aurora, run by GEO Group, Inc. This event is part of the End the ICE Age Campaign, led by Detention Watch Network, in partnership with Disappeared in America, a project of the Not Above the Law Coalition. National partners include Detention Watch Network, NDLON, Maremoto, Public Citizen, the Workers Circle, Popular Democracy, AFSC and more. A core principle behind this event is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation at the event. Please leave weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, behind!
