FUERA FLOCK: Rally at Santa Ana City Hall! It’s time to let Santa Ana City Council know how our community feels about automated license plate reader (ALPR) cameras. On Tuesday, October 20, Flock and ALPR surveillance are officially on the Santa Ana City Council agenda. Join Chispa and community members at City Hall to rally, make public comment, and demand an end to mass surveillance in Santa Ana. Important: Item 28 does NOT cancel the Flock or Motorola contracts. Instead, the item asks City Council to consider directing staff to return within 30 days with information about: - Options and costs to terminate, suspend, or not renew the contracts - The cost effectiveness of Santa Ana’s ALPR system - Outside agencies’ access to Santa Ana’s ALPR data - Compliance with California law and SAPD policy This is an important opportunity for our community to tell City Council what we want them to do next. ALPR cameras capture license plates and vehicle information as people travel throughout the city, creating searchable records of where vehicles have been seen. That raises important questions about privacy, data sharing, accountability, and how surveillance affects immigrant communities and everyone who lives, works, organizes, or travels through Santa Ana. Our demands are clear: Cancel the Flock and Motorola contract. Do not replace it with another ALPR vendor. Invest in community, not mass surveillance.
