Immigration detentions by ICE and local law enforcement is surging in the country, South Florida, and in Palm Beach County. Family separation is rampant, detention centers are overcrowded and ripe with serious human rights abuses. People are dying from ICE shootings and in ICE custody. The data shows that the overwhelming majority of the immigrants being detained are hard-working, family oriented, and net contributors to our community. They are our neighbors, not criminals. This immigration enforcement regime can only exist by taking away people’s constitutional rights and by covering up their immigration operations from public view. On Monday, November 16, 6:00- 7:30 PM, at the Dr. Andre Fladell Civic Center, 16700 Jog Rd., Delray Beach, FL 33446 come hear the experts. Moderator: Barbara Eriv, Indivisible Immigration Coalition (PBCIIC). The current immigration policy landscape and possible policy change opportunities from the 2026 midterms and into the 2027 municipal election-Renata Bozzetto, Deputy Director at the Florida Immigrant Coalition A profile of the immigrants in our community and the effects from family separation: Ruth Rosa MACP, Post-Release Services Clinician at Urban Strategies. The legal and constitutional rules of the current administration and impacts on detainees and families-Jennifer Smith, Senior Litigation Attorney at Americans for Immigration Justice. The longer term consequences to our community and economy-Philip Lewin, Associate Professor of Sociology, Director of Graduate Studies at the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) *A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.*
