This a local Indivisible event! Dear Representative [Last Name], I am writing as your constituent to express my profound objection to the Pentagon’s announced plan to livestream the execution by firing squad of Nidal Hasan, scheduled for December 3, 2026. This would be the first military execution in more than 60 years and the first public execution in the United States in nearly a century. A UN spokesperson described the prospect of a government executing someone “in front of live cameras” as “abhorrent”. Amnesty International has condemned the plan as “reprehensible,” noting that international human rights bodies have long found public executions incompatible with the prohibition on cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment. The United States should not join the ranks of nations that carry out public executions; according to Amnesty International, only Iran and Afghanistan are known to have done so in 2025. This is not who we are—or who we should aspire to be. The livestr
