About this event
This Día de los Muertos, join us to honor and remember the lives taken by ICE and Border Patrol — and to demand an end to the violence. We'll gather at the North Lake Processing Center and grieve publicly for the people who have died in ICE custody and been killed by ICE and Border Patrol agents, drawing on the Día de los Muertos tradition of honoring loved ones. Last December, Nenko Gantchev died at North Lake because of the GEO Group's medical neglect. On September 20th of this year, ICE killed Mario David Coronado Juárez when they pursued his vehicle in Grand Rapids. Just days after that, they kidnapped more members of Mario's family. This action is part of End the ICE Age, a national day of action happening in cities across the country October 31–November 2. We're demanding Congress get ICE out of our communities, redirect ICE funding, and shut down ICE detention centers for good. A core principle behind all Disappeared In America events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
