About this event
Students could flip House District 72, Kent State University’s seat in the State House, but it’s up to YOU to make the difference. Join your classmates and students from around the state to canvass to GET OUT THE VOTE at Kent State on October 23rd, 11-4 PM, so we can elect someone who will ACTUALLY represent Kent State students and put pro-SB 1 anti-Kent incumbent Heidi Workman out of a job. The choice is between Heidi Workman, the incumbent who voted FOR Senate Bill 1, the demolition order for everything that makes Kent State feel like home. It shut down the Multicultural Center, the Women’s Center, and the LGBTQ+ Center in a single day. Students lost scholarships they were already counting on. Professors can’t even strike anymore. Students report Africana students – a program that only exists because students organized for it – is being cut, and even the May 4th class at the May 4th school is under threat. She never met with students. She endorsed Vivek Ramaswamy, who’s talked about shutting Kent State down – her own alma mater – and wants data centers all over Portage County. Jeff Clapper is Kent City Council president; he’s anti-data center, his daughter graduated from Kent State; and he actually wants to make college and trades affordable so students like us can build a future here. Students are pledging to vote, and they’re voting Clapper. Join students from around the state as we carpool and travel to Kent to knock doors so we can talk to students about the facts of this race and make plans to vote. If students win HD 72, along with other key districts statewide, we could end the supermajority of Republicans that makes it impossible to better our campuses. This is students’ chance to take back our power in Ohio, and it’s up to YOU. RSVP here to get more information so that YOU can make a difference this November. We will teach you how to canvass and provide lunch.
