CCI Monthly Social: A guided heritage tour of Fells Point

Join us for a 90-minute walk through Fell’s Point and explore how one of Baltimore’s oldest neighborhoods was shaped not just by ships and commerce, but by the people who lived, worked, organized, and fought for a place in the city. We’ll trace Fell’s Point from its beginnings as an 18th-century port through its years as a center of shipbuilding and immigration. We’ll talk about the contradictions embedded in its history: a place where more than a million immigrants began new lives in America, while enslaved people arrived in bondage or were shipped south; and where Black workers confronted discrimination by organizing and ultimately creating the nation’s first Black-owned shipyard. Along the way, we’ll see historic homes, streets, and remnants of the working waterfront and consider a question that still resonates for civic activists today: Who gets to shape a city—and what happens when people organize to claim a voice in its future?
