About this event
Knowledge is power—and knowing your rights can help protect you, your family, and your community. This Know Your Rights (KYR) Training will provide practical, easy-to-understand information about the rights everyone has when interacting with ICE or other law enforcement, regardless of immigration status. Participants will learn what to do if ICE comes to their home, approaches them at work or in public, or if they or someone they know is detained. The training will cover the right to remain silent, the right to refuse consent to a search, the difference between judicial and administrative warrants, what information you are and are not required to provide, and the importance of not signing documents you do not understand without speaking with an attorney. We will also discuss how families can prepare before an emergency happens, what community members can safely do when they witness immigration enforcement activity, how to document and report what is happening, and where to turn for trusted legal and community resources. Our goal is not to create fear—it is to replace fear with knowledge, preparation, and community support. When we know our rights and know how to respond, we are better prepared to protect ourselves and look out for one another.
