About this event
### We’re fighting for fair maps in Mississippi. After the Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais, you may hear that the Supreme Court required Mississippi to redraw its legislative and congressional districts. **It didn’t. There is no legal requirement to redraw Mississippi’s maps in the middle of the decade.** Despite this, Mississippi lawmakers are currently rushing to the capitol to draw maps that give Black voters less representation; scheduling eight public hearings across the state. Lawmakers say that they’ll begin drawing maps after those hearings conclude. It’s time to show up for our freedom to vote. **Join the ACLU of Mississippi as we attend the Joint Committee on Redistricting Public Hearing on Thursday, September 17th, 2026, at 6:00 PM CT.** Together, we’ll demand lawmakers protect fair representation, respect the Voting Rights Act, and reject mid-decade redistricting. **WHAT:** Show up For Fair Maps with the ACLU of MS: Redistricting Public Hearing Mobilization **WHEN:** Thursday, September 17th at 6:00 PM CT **WHERE:** Hattiesburg, Mississippi — RSVP for details! This is not about lines on a map—it’s about whether Mississippi moves forward toward fairness and representation or backwards toward old Jim Crow policies to silence Black voices. Join ACLU-MS on September 17th.
